Lesson : Data Protection & Privacy
This topic provides a comprehensive understanding of Data Protection and Data Privacy in the workplace, emphasizing that data must be safeguarded both as a critical organizational asset and as part of an individual’s legal rights. Participants will learn the objectives of Data Protection in maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data through proper technical and organizational controls across the data lifecycle, as well as the concept of Data Privacy that focuses on the rights of data subjects and the obligations of data controllers/processors in managing how personal data is collected, processed, stored, and shared. The session also introduces key Data Privacy principles, particularly the accountability principle, and provides an overview of Indonesia’s Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP), including definitions of personal data and sensitive personal data, roles of the Data Controller and Data Protection Officer (DPO), data breach reporting within 3 x 24 hours, required elements of a privacy notice, implementation of security measures such as data masking and encryption, and practical best practices to ensure that cybersecurity and data protection become shared responsibilities in daily work and business processes.

The course is clear and helpful in building a solid understanding of personal data protection principles under the PDP Law.
One important point I would like to highlight is that political preferences or political beliefs should be explicitly categorized as personal (and sensitive) data, as they relate directly to an individual’s fundamental rights and privacy.
